العلاقات بين الدول العربية علاقات شائكة ومعقدة جداً، والخوض فيها يحتاج إلى معرفة واسعة بالمصادر الأولية من وثائق رسمية ومذكرات للشخصيات الفاعلة في هذه العلاقات، ولما كانت الوثائق الرسمية ما زالت طي الكتمان، ولم يُكشف عنها في معظم الدول العربية، كان الدكتور محمد سعيد حمدان من الباحثين العرب القلائل الذي أقدموا على هذه المغامرة بتناوله "العلاقات العراقية السعودية".
وعرض الباحث لتحسن العلاقات بين المملكتين العراقية والسعودية خلال العقد الزمني السابق لاندلاع الحرب العالمية الثانية، وشرح بتوسع المعاهدات التي أُبرمت بينهما.
كما أوضح الباحث تدهور العلاقات بين الدولتين خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية بسبب تجدد الخلافات والخصومات العشائرية على حدود الدولتين.
ولما كانت القضية الفلسطينية قضية العرب جميعاً، فقد كانت لمواقف الدول العربية منها أثرها القوي في العلاقات الثنائية بين هذه الدول، وكان موقف العراق – كما بين الباحث – مختلفاً عن موقف المملكة العربية السعودية من هذه القضية.
إنني أرى أنه على الرغم من مرور عدة عقود من الزمن على تأليف هذا الكتاب، ما زال مفيداً للباحثين والقراء العاديين الراغبين في الإطلاع على طبيعة العلاقات بين الدول العربية.
