"رواية تعالج فترة حكم الاستعمار الفرنسي للجزائر، وهي الرواية الأولى من ثلاثية للمؤلف، سوف تُنشر الرواية الثانية (سرجان الحركي) والرواية الثالثة (الإسباني الصابئ) العام القادم بإذن الله. نقد أدبي مختصر: تنتمي رواية (أرض الشهد العلقم) إلى ما يُعرف بـ ""أدب ما بعد الاستعمار"". وهو الأدب الذي يعيد النظر في الحقبة الاستعمارية ويخضعها للفحص والمراجعة ليتبين حقيقة مخلَّفات الاستعمار الثقافية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية. وظفت الرواية عدداً من التقنيات الفنية المهمة مثل الحكاية الشعبية، والحادثة التاريخية، وقصص الإطار، وتعدد الأصوات، وتيار الوعي، والرمز. ويمتزج في الرواية التخيلي بالتاريخي والوثائقي، فضلاً عن فاعلية العناصر البنائية وخصوصاً الزمان والمكان. وتعتبر الرواية، محكمة فنياً، ولغتها الأدبية رفيعة. اتصفت الرواية (يراها محبي الروايات الكلاسيكية ميزة، وقد يخالفهم البعض) بطول نفس المؤلف، فهو لا يتوقف عن السرد، قادراً على إدراج قصص كثيرة، دون فاصل، مُستفيداً من الزخم القصصي الذي يسرده، والرابط الدقيق الذي لا يُزعج القارئ وفي الوقت نفسه يجعله يقبل هذا الاسترسال. تعتبر (أرض الشهد والعلقم) تعتبر بمثابة مدونة تاريخية لفترة تاريخ الجزائر أوائل احتلال المستعمر الفرنسي. وتأتي الرواية في قالب سردي تخييلي، يقوم بتشييده راوٍ عليم داخلي؛ أي أنه جزء من الحكاية السردية،"
