نحن هنا أمام وثيقة تاريخية بالغة الأهمية... وهي وثيقة شارك في ترجمتها نخبة من شباب الباحثين والمترجمين المتمرسين. أما لماذا هو العمل، يعد وثيقة بالغة الأهمية والخطورة، فذلك لأنه عبارة عن يوميات ومذكرات سرية لوزير البلاط الإيراني (أسد علم) الذي ظل في هذا المنصب الهام طيلة الفترة من 7609 حتى 1977 حين قدم استقالته لإصابته بالسرطان، والذي توفي بعد إصابته به بعام واحد أي عام 1978 وقبل اندلاع الثورة الإسلامية بشهور قليلة.
إن الموقع السياسي الذي احتله أسد علم، "والمعلومات الشخصية والعامة" التي احتوتها هذه اليوميات هي التي ترشح أهميتها كوثيقة إدانة دافعة لعصر من الفساد والإفساد.
ما عن قصة هذه المذكرات فتعود إلى أن "أسد علم" دأب خلال توليه منصبه كوزير للبلاد، وبعد إطلاعه على الفضائح الجنسية والسياسية والاجتماعية للشاه "محمد رضا بهلوي" دأب على أن يسجل يومياته يوماً بيوم، ويودعها في أحد بنوك سويسرا خوفاً على نفسه من بطش الشاه أو من سيأتي بعده، وقبل وفاته بأيام أخبر زوجته بهذه المذكرات وبمكانها، وطلب منها نشرها ولكن بعد رحيل الشاه، وبالفعل قامت الزوجة عام 1987 بجمع المذكرات والتي وصلت إلى 15000 صفحة بالفارسية، وطلبت من "علي غني علي خاني" المدير الأسبق لجامعة طهران وزير الاقتصاد لمدة ست سنوات في عهد الشاه، طلبت منه ترجمتها إلى الإنجليزية، فقام بذلك بعد أن اختصرها للثلث تقريباً..
ولقد حوت المذكرات بكل تفاصيلها ووقائعها على إجابة أساسية لسؤال مركزي وهو: لماذا سقط الشاه؟ إن هذه المذكرات رغم تحيز صاحبها في بعض أركانها إلى الشاه وممارساته بل وتسهيله لهذه الممارسات غير الأخلاقية وغير الإنسانية، إلا أنها كشفت عن الأسباب الحقيقية لسقوط العرش الإمبراطوري لشاه إيران. وكشفت عن الفساد السياسي المتجذر في شخص الشاه، وعرشه، وسياسته، وكشفت بالمقابل عن أسباب صعود الثورة الإسلامية والشعبية في إيران، وتلك هي الرسالة التي نفهمها من كتاب "الشاه وأنا" "لأسد علم".
