"الكافي" كتاب في الفقه ضمنه العلامة ابن قدامه العديد من المسائل التي لا يستغني عنها مسلم منها: المسائل التي يتقرب بها العبد إلى خالقه، وهو قسم العبادات، أحكام المعاملات، فأبان الحقوق والأموال وطرق تملكها وما يتعلق بها من التزامات، نظام الأسرة في الإسلام، فبين أحكام الزواج والطلاق، والعدة، ونحو ذلك، الأحكام الجنائية التي تصدر عن المكلف وغيره؛ فبين الحدود والقصاص، أحكام القضاء ونظام التقاضي، العلاقة بين الأمة الإسلامية وغيرها من الأمم في أيام السلم والحرب، وذلك في كتاب السير.
وهكذا جاء كتاب ابن قدامه: مبيناً عظمة الفقه الإسلامي، ودوره في بناء الأمة المحمدية. وما يمز الطبعة التي بين يدينا في الكتاب هو أنها جاءت مذهلة بتحقيقه لطيف هدفه توضيح ما غمض فيها من مفردات وشرح ما أشكل من عبارات إلى جاني هذا اهتم المحقق بتشكيل الأحاديث النبوية تشكيلاً حرفياً. ويشرح المصطلحات الفقهية والأصولية الواردة في الكتاب وبالتعليق على بعض المسائل الفقهية، كما اعتنى بتدوين مقدمة ضمنها ترجمة لحساب الكتاب.
