رشيد الخيون باحث وكاتب عراقي مهتم بقضايا الفكر العربي القديم، يكتب في صحيفة الاتحاد الإماراتية، وصدرت له العديد من المؤلفات في التراث والفكر، وهو حاصل على جائزة الملك عبد العزيز للكتاب عام 2017م عن كتابه (أثر السود في الحضارة الإسلامية).
سيرته
ولد في الجبايش في محافظة ذي قار جنوب العراق، من آل خيون مشايخ قبيلة بني أسد. تخرج من معهد المعلمين في بغداد. حصل على شهادة البكلوريوس من جامعة عدن 1984 في اليمن الجنوبي. نال شهادة الدكتوراه في صوفيا في الفلسفة الإسلامية سنة 1991. مارس التعليم في مدارس بغداد الابتدائية للفترة 1975-1978 في الوقت الذي نشرت فيه منظمة اليونسكو تقريرا قالت فيه إن التعليم في العراق يضاهي التعليم في الدول الإسكندنافية. درس في الجامعات اليمنية للفترة 1979_1988 وهي الفترة التي شهدت رحيل حوالي أكثر من 23 ألف باحث وطبيب ومهندس إلى خارج العراق نتيجة حرب الخليج الأولى التي خاضها العراق بقيادة صدام حسين وإيران بزعامة الخميني.وهو أيضا كاتب مقال أسبوعي في جريدة الشرق الأوسط وصحف أخرى أبرزها صحيفة إتحاد الإماراتية.
أفكاره
هو كاتب علماني يحاول تأصيل العلمانية بواسطة الاستدلال بآراء علماء إسلام أو مواقف حدثت في تاريخ الإسلام، أي هو من دعاة التأصيل العلماني (أي البحث عن أصل للعلمانية في الإسلام).

مذهب المعتزلة من الكلام إلى الفلسفة: كان صوت المعتزلة، في زمن كبار خلفاء الدَّولة العباسية الأوائل، مدوياً، شغلوا مجالس المناظرة وكانوا فرسان الكلام ونوابغه، خرجوا عن الفكر السائد إلى رحاب العقل والانشغال في قضايا الوجود، وهذا ما أدناهم مِن الفلسفة وأبعدهم شيء ما عن اللاهوت، لكنهم دفعوا، سبب أفكارهم ومواقفهم السِّياسية الثمن باهظاً.
مع ذلك عاشت مقالاتهم لقرون من الزَّمن، واختلطت مع مقالات مذاهب أُخرى. تظهر الحاجة إلى تراث المعتزلة كلما تعرضت الثقافة إلى أزمة، على أنها الماضي الفكري الذي يُعتشى به، بالمقابلة مع الأفكار الاُخرى.
حوى الكتاب شرحاً مفصلاً لأُصول المعتزلة، التوحيد والعدل، وكيف جابهوا المقالة الجبرية، ومقالاتهم في شؤون الكون، من الأجسام وحركاتها وعلاقة الأعراض بها، وما يخص سقوط الأجسام، وما يتعلق بآرائهم الأُخرى، التي تؤهلهم أن يكونوا فلاسفة، بحدود عصورهم، مع العلم أن ما قدمه فلاسفة ذلك الزمان لم يخلو بوجه مِن الوجوه من أفكارهم المتقدمة، حتى بالقياس تنتج من عتمة في عصرنا الحاضر.
