يسعى المؤلف في هذا الكتاب إلى نفض الغبار عن أهم الوجوه الأدبية التي عرفتها الحضارة العربية الإسلامية في القرن السادس للهجرة - الثاني عشر للميلاد، وذلك من خلال تحقيق ديوان شعري بقي حتى هذه الساعة مغموراً بين المخطوطات في المكتبات العالمية.
ويحمل المخطوط عنوان ديوان شذور الذهب حيث يعتبر وفق ما ورد في كتابات المتقدمين شاهداً على تقدم الأندلسيين في مجال النَّظم في علم الكيمياء، أما ناظمه فهو ابن أرفع رأس الجيّاني (المتوفى سنة 593هـ) الذي لم ينصفه التاريخ على الرغم من التمكن الذي أبداه في الإمامة والفقه ورواية الحديث والشعر وعلم الكيمياء خصوصاً.
