الأسرة الإنسانية هي قاعدة الحياة الإنسانية التي تشكل أساس بنيانها، وتحدد وجهة مسيرتها، وعلى أدائها يعتمد نوعية أداء المجتمع، وتطور بنائه ومؤسساته ومعدن أعضائه. والأم هي قاعدة الأسرة التي ينبع منها حياتها ويلتف حولها ويقف على أكتافها ويتناول من يدها كل أعضاء الأسرة روح الحياة ومادتها. وإذا ضيعت الأمومة بالذل والمهانة أو بالخلاعة والمجون، ضاع معنى الحياة ومذاق طمعها ورائحة دفئها وأمنها. وقد عني الإسلام بالأسرة وبالأمومة والحفاظ عليها وحماية حقوقها وكرامتها، وأقام علاقاتها على المودة والرحمة، وعلى البر والعرفان بالجميل.
وهذا البحث يحقق إحدى قضايا الأسرة التي تتعلق بكرامة المرأة، ومن ورائها كرامة الإنسان، من منطلق واجب الاجتهاد، لتحقيق مقاصد الشريعة، في بناء الأسرة وعلاقاتها في عالم اليوم ومتغيراته. وفيه يركز المؤلف على مسألة ضرب المرأة، مبيناً موقف الإسلام من هذه المسألة وتأثيرها في تكوين النشء معرفياً وروحياً ونفسياً، في محاولة لتحديد تأثير الضرب العنيف على إصلاح أحوال الأسرة والزوجة على حدّ السواء. ويخلص المؤلف من بحثه إلى أن المقصود بـ"الضرب" في السياق القرآني، بشأن ترتيبات إصلاح العلاقة الزوجية إذا أصابها عطب ونفرة: هو مفارقة الزوج زوجته وترك دار الزوجية، والبعد الكامل عن الدار كوسيلة أخيرة لتمكين الزوجة من إدراك مآل سلوك النفرة والنشوز والتقصير في حقوق الزوجة ليوضح لها أن ذلك لا بد أن ينتهي إلى الفراق و"الطلاق"، وكل ما هناك بينهما من آثار خطيرة خاصة لو كان هناك بينهما أطفال.
