Book Description
كانت "كلير" سعيدة مع والديها اللذين كانا يعملان صحفيين يجوبان العالم، وكانا يصحبانها معهما إلى أن رزقت الأم بابنة ثانية، فتركهما الوالدان -هي وأختها- عند عمتهما. ثم قتلا في حادثة غرق وأصبحتا تحت رحمة العمة القاسية، والتي أخذت تهدد "كلير" بأن تبعدها عن أختها الصغيرة، والتي كانت تعتبرها متخلفة عقلياً رغم ذكائها الشديد، وعندما تبلغ "كلير" سن الرشد تحصل على الوصاية على أختها، وتقوم على رعايتها.
تثبت الأخت الصغيرة ذكاء حاداً، وتحصل على البكالوريا في سن صغيرة جداً.
تحاول "كلير" تعويض أختها، وتتعهد لها بأن تجوب معها العالم كما كانت تفعل هي مع والديها، فتنضم إلى فرقة بوهيمية من الرحل تجوب البلاد عارضة فنونها من الغناء، والرقص، وإقامة أسواق لعرض المنتجات اليدوية الغريبة.
تنزل الفرقة في بلدة متطرفة لتقيم فيها شهراً، وتلتقي "كلير" بأحد أصحاب مزارع تربية الخيول العربية الأصلية، ويقع في حبها بعنف شديد، ويحاول كسب قلب الشابة التي كانت محترقة ما بين حبها، ووعدها بحماية أختها، ورغبتها في تبادل الحب مع راعي البقر صاحب مزرعة الخيول.
