يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يبين الكثير من النواحي الواقعية المرتبطة بالتعاليم التربوية الوادرة في النصوص المقدسة، ذلك أن الكثير منا للأسف يرددها من غير فهم لأعماقها ومعانيها البعيدة التي تشمل الحياة جميعا.
وقد كان التركيز فيه على الخصال التي نهى عنها الشرع، إما نهيا صريحا، أو بالإشارة، لأن التقوى والورع لا يمكن أن يتحققا من دون ترك المنهيات، ومراعاة حدود الله، ولذلك سميته [لا تفعل] وذلك لا يعني اقتصاره على المنهيات.. وإنما يشمل المأمورات أيضا.. فترك كل منهي عنه يستلزم استبداله بالمأمور به.. ولهذا ذكرنا البدائل الشرعية لكل ما نهى الله عنه من سلوكات ومواقف.
وقد حاولنا أن نذكر في وصايا هذا الكتاب كل ما يرتبط بحياة المسلم من جوانب أخلاقية وروحية ودعوية .. وهي تشمل نواحي الحياة جميعا. وقد صغناه بصياغة بسيطة على شكل وصايا يوجهها الكاتب لرفيق عزيز عليه، يراه كل حين يقع في خطأ من الأخطاء، فيسرع وينبهه إلى اجتنابه، ويستعمل لذلك كل وسائل الترغيب والترهيب.
