هذا الكتاب بحث تأصيلي في معنى السلام، يتناوله في مستوياته المتراكبة من المستوى النفسي إلى الفكري إلى الوطني إلى البيئي إلى العالمي، مع تحقيق فرضية أن السلام هو حالة الأصل، وأحد مقاصد الخلق العليا في الدين الإسلامي، وتبيان أن الجهاد الذي يبدو في ظاهره مبدأ مناقضًا ومهددًا لحالة السلام إنما هو في الحقيقة عامل مساعد في خدمته وتأكيده.
وقد توصل البحث إلى هذه النتائج وغيرها من خلال دفعه بنظرية عليا في مداخل تحليل العلاقات الدولية تحمل عنوان (التدافع)، وهي النظرية الذي ينتظر أن تصبح في المستقبل الوشيك البديل الأكفأ لمبادئ الجدل والتناقض والصراع كما تجلت في الفلسفة السياسية الغربية الطارفة والتليدة.
