في حياة كل أمة نجوم تظهر في سمائها, ثم سرعان ما يتلاشى وهجها, ويخبو نورها.. وهناك نجوم تظهر ثم لا تزيدها السنون إلا بريقاً ولمعاناً, رغم مرور مائة عام مثلاً على رحيلها, كما الحال مع الشاعر التونسي خالد الذكر أبي القاسم الشابي موضوع هذا الكتاب. هذا الشاعر بعد مائة عام من وفاته, ورغم أنه رحل في العشرينيات من عمره القصير, استطاع من قبره أن يشعل الثورة في بلاده ضد الحكم الجائر, وأن يساهم في إسقاط نظام ديكتاتور عتيد هو الرئيس زين العابدين بن علي. وقد تابع العالم أجمع كيف كان بيت هذا الشاعر: (إذا الشعب يوماً أراد الحياة.. فلا بد أن يستجيب القدر) هو شعار ثورة الياسمين, الذي كانت الملايين تردده في مظاهراتها واحتجاجاتها ضد نظام بن علي, حتى انتهت بهروبه في الرابع عشر من يناير عام 2011. وهذا الكتاب يتناول حياة شاعرنا الكبير, وما كانت تنطوي عليه من ألم وشقاء, بفعل المرض, وألم وشقاء بفعل ممارسات الاحتلال الفرنسي لبلاده.
كما يتناول الكتاب مدرسة الشابي الشعرية, وأهم أغراض شعره, مع نماذج من أعظم وأحلى ما كتب في الوطنية والحرية والمرأة والحب والجمال وغيرها من الموضوعات التي جعلته يعتلي قمة الهرم الشعري العربي.
