هذه رسالة منسوبة لأبي علي الحاتمي (ت 388هـ)، وسمها بــ: "الرسالة الحاتمية فيما ذكره أبو الطيب المتنبي في شعره متجانساً لكلام أرسطو".
تعد من أهم الرسائل الأدبية الناقدة التي تحيط بالمتنبي وفنه: لأنها - وإن كانت تميل إلى الإستبداد في الرأي والتجني في التقييم، والإجحاف في النقد، والتعسف في الحكم - غاية في الأهمية، فهي تعبر عن المواقف السلبية لبعض العلماء المعاصرين للمتنبي، فقد ألّفها الحاتمي؛ ليبين الألفاظ المنطقية، والآراء الفلسفية التي أخذها أبو الطيب من أرسطو، إذ أورد الحاتمي في رسالته نحواً من مئة بيت شارد للمتنبي، تصلح أن تكون حكمة، وقابلها بحكم أرسطو النثرية، وزعم أن المتنبي أخذ تلك الألفاظ المنطقية، والمعاني الفلسفية منه، وصاغها شعراً، وقد قمنا بتحقيق هذه الرسالة، وقدمنا لها بمجموعة من الدراسات المهمة التي تثري هذه الرسالة، وتغنيها.
فهي رسالة عكست - غير ما أُريد لها - من فضل المتنبي وقدره، ومهارته وقدرته، وغور نظرته، وعمق بحثه، إذ أغرق في المعاني، ودرس العلوم، فتميز بالإيجاز، والبلاغة، وشوارد المعاني، ومنتقى الألفاظ، فكان "على غاية في الفضل، ونهاية في النبل".
