في بداية مشواري أدركت أهمية فن الرسم الكاريكاتوري وقيمته وما يمكن أن يؤديه في تطوير الحياة وتوجيه الإنسان بأسلوب يتقبله راضيًا وربما مبتسمًا في كثير من الأحيان، وفي قراءتي حول هذا الفن، اكتشفت قصصًا لرسوم من تاريخنا الفرعوني أرخت وسجلت أحداثًا عرفناها عن طريق هذا الفن الذي كنا أول من ابتدعه منذ فجر التاريخ، والمتأمل في تراثنا الفرعوني يقف مبهورًا أمام التماثيل واللوحات الكاريكاتورية التي أبدعها الرسام المصري القديم!
وتلخيصًا لقصتي مع الكاريكاتير، فإن بدايتي فيه مبكرة، ففي عام 1942 كانت مصر ضمن نطاق الإمبراطورية البريطانية التي كانت في حرب مع ألمانيا، والجيش الألماني يتقدم باكتساح في مختلف ميادين الصراع، وفي مصر وصل الألمان إلى العلمين وفيها وقعت القوات البريطانية في الأسر، واضطر المستر تشرشر رئيس وزراء بريطانيا للتسلل في البحر، وجاء إلى مصر ودرس الموقف، بعدها عاد إلى بريطانيا وجمع رسامي الكاريكاتير الإنجليز، وقال إنهم يملكون السلاح الماضي في المعركة وحملهم مسئولية رفع الروح المعنوية المنهارة، فقام الرسامون بواجبهم وانتشرت لوحاتهم الكاريكاتورية في جميع أنحاء الإمبراطورية، وضمنها كل نواصي الشوارع والحواري والمنتديات في مصر، وعلى الرغم من أن عواطفي كانت مع الألمان أملاً في أن يخلصونا من الإنجليز فإنني أعجب برسوم الإنجليز فكرًا وأسلوبًا، ومن هذه الرسوم أدركت أهمية وقيمة الكاريكاتير!
وعلى صفحات الكتاب الذي بين يديك قدمت ما استطعت جمعه من رسومي الكاريكاتورية لفترة مليئة بأحداث عشتها وانفعلت بها وعبرت عنها إيمانًا مني بواجبي كرسام كاريكاتير.
