يبحث هذا الكتاب في حركة الإنسان لتحقيق دعوته إلى الحرِّيَّة من خلال سلوكه اليوميّ، تجاوباً مع نعمة الله تعالى العاملة فيه بقوّة الروح في سبيل بناء عالم ينمو إخاءً وتضامناً وعدلاً، وينطلق من خبرتنا الروحيّة والفكريّة، فقد اكتشفنا حضور الله في داخلنا، في قلبنا وعقلنا، قوّةَ تحرير وحياةً ومحبّةً، وأردنا أن تُظهر حضورَ الله هذا حضوراً فعَّالاً في سلوك البشر، فيحقّقوا في الوقت نفسه، تحقيقاً صادقاً، دعوتَهم الإنسانيّة العميقة وعلاقَتَهم الحيويّة بالله من خلال أفعالهم وأقوالهم ومواقفهم.
ولذلك أردنا الربط بين الدعوة إلى الحرِّيَّة والأخلاق المسيحيّة، ودرسِ أسسها وتوضيح مصادرها وعرض آفاقها، مؤكِّدين وحدتهما العضويّة وأساسهما الإيمانيّ.
وقد قسّمنا الكتاب إلى أربعة أبواب متكامل في بنيتها ومحتواها، لكلّ باب هدفه، يبدأ الباب الأول بعرض للتساؤل الأخلاقيّ الأساسيّ ومعناه اليوميّ، ويتناول الباب الثاني مصادر الفكر الأخلاقيّ في تكوين معاييره وتحديد أهدافه، ويحلِّل الباب الثالث آفاق البحث الأخلاقي في الفكر المسيحيّ، وهي تنمية الإنسان تنمية شاملة كشخص فريد يحيا في علاقة بأناس آخرين وبالله، ويدرس الباب الرابع والأخير القرار الأخلاقيّ ودور الضمير في إتخاذ القرار بمسؤولية وحرِّيَّة.
