محمد عبد الرحمن إسماعيل: طبيب حر ومترجم. وُلِدَ بمدينة القاهرة في أغسطس عام ١٩٥١م. التحق بكلية الطب جامعة القاهرة وتخرج فيها عام ١٩٧٦م، لكن ممارسة الطب لم تكُن تُشكِّل الاهتمام الأول له في ذلك الوقت؛ فعمل في الترجمة إلى جانب اشتغاله المحدود بمجال الطب، لا سيما الترجمة العلمية والطبية. ترجم العديد من الكتب العلمية والطبية إلى جانب بعض الكتب في مجالات أخرى، وذلك خلال عمله مترجمًا حرًّا مع العديد من مكاتب الترجمة ودور الصحافة الطبية وبعض دور نشر الكتب، آخرها «كلمات للترجمة والنشر».

يختص تحليل الإنحدار بدراسة إعتماد متغير واحد يعرف بالمتغير المعتمد أو التابع على متغير واحد أو أكثر تعرف بالمتغيرات المستقلة وذلك بغرض تقدير و/ أو التنبؤ بالقيم المتوسطة للمتغير التابع.
وتستخدم نماذج الإنحدار في معظم أنواع البحث العلمي التي غالباً ما تضم متغيرات تابعة يمكن التنبؤ بها من متغيرات المفسرة.
وتناول الكتاب موضوعات تحليل الإنحدار الخطي التي تشمل نموذج الإنحدار الخطي البسيط، ونموذج الإنحدار الخطي المتعدد.
وقد عالج الكتاب أهم مشكلات عدم إستيفاء إشتراطات بناء نموذج الإنحدار الخطي وطرق معالجتها، وبالإضافة إلى المعالجة النظرية تم التركيز على أمثلة وتطبيقات عملية بإستخدام برامج (نظام SAS و SPSS).
