هذا الكتاب يصف ويحلل أعمال المهندس "بيار لويجي نرفي" منذ الثلاثينات حتى اعتزاله مهنية الهندسة في السبعينات. وهو يبدأ بتقديم أعماله الهندسية، متوقفاً عند خصائصها وضعها الجغرافي وبعد ذلك ينتقل إلى تحليل أعماله الهندسية، مبرزاً التصاميم والمخططات التي وضعها "بيار نرفي" مع إظهاره لبعض التفاصيل التقنية والأنظمة التي اعتمدها لبناء عماراته، ومن ثم ينتقل إلى تحليل مجمل الأنظمة البنيوية التي أتبعها، مجدداً مخططات الأنظمة التي وضعها، ومحاولاً تبيان طبيعة عملها وغاية وظيفتها، وهو في كل ما أورد وشرح عمد إلى تدعيم دراسته بعدد من الصور والمعلومات التقنية التي تبرز للقارئ كيفية تنظيم "بيار نرفي" للنظام البنيوي الملائم لكل مبنى قام بتنفيذه وأسباب لجوءه غلى التصنيع المسبق لمواد البناء.
إن الميزة الأساسية للمهندس المعماري والمدني بيير لويجي نرفي (1891-1918) هي اكتشافه لتقنيات وسبل عمل جديدة في مجال الإسمنت المسلح.
إن إنجازاته-على سبيل المثال الإنشاءات الرياضية للألعاب الأولمبية عام 1960 في روما-تميزت في جرأة أنظمته البنيوية المعتمدة، وبساطتها الوظيفية، وقدراتها الجمالية العالية، كما أن استحداثه لمناهج جديدة في البناء، والملائمة لتطورات عصره، منحته شهرة عالمية وامتيازات شرفية عدة. وقد جعل من تلاميذه، خلال الـ18 عاماً كأستاذ في كلية الهندسة المعمارية في روما، ورثة تجاربه ومعرفته الجديدة لتقنيات الإعمار وخصائص المواد المستخدمة للبناء.
