إذا كان المطصلح يشكل في المجمل العام مفردة داخل نص ، أي جزاءاً من النص ، في مجملة يعبر عن ثقافى من أنتجه ، واللغة التي أنتجته ، فليس هناك ما يدعو للشك كما يقول إدوارد سعيد في كتابه "الثقافة والنص والعالم" : " إن الثقافات كلها تميل إلى الظفر من خلال تعزيز هيمنتها . ومن الجدير بالذكر أنها كلها تعزز هيمنتها بشتى الطرق وبمنتهى الوضوح .. وإن كانت الثقافة - وفقاً لهذا الطرح - تمارس شتى أنواع الضغط لفرض نفسها على الآخر ، وإن كانت تعمل على خلق المناخ الذي يتبح للناس الشعور بالانتماء، عندها إذا يجب أن يكون واضحاً أن مقاومة الثقافة ( الوارده) كانت موجودة على الدوام ، وفي أغلب الأحيان تتخذ هذه المقاومة شكل العداء الصريح لأسباب دينية أو اجتماعية أو سياسية".
