الماوردي علم من أعلام الفكر الإسلامي في أزهى عصوره وأبهاها. وله كتب عدة منها هذا الكتاب الذي ضمنه قسمين: الأول يختص بدلائل النبوة، والثاني فيما يختلف فيه من أقسامها وأحكامها.
وأما منهجه الذي سلكه فيه فهو منهج كلامي جدلي عقلي منطقي، بعيد عن منهج القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية الصحيحة في إثبات العقيدة، وتقرير قضاياها. لذلك يحلق فيه بكثير من أدلة إثبات النبوة العقلية، ويفوته في بعض الأحيان-على رفعة مكانته العلمية-التدقيق في صحة بعض الأحاديث النبوية الشريفة، مما اقتضى إعادة طباعة الكتاب، والتدقيق في أحاديثه، والتوسع في بعض أدلته، والتعليق عليها. فقام بذلك، في هذه الطبعة الخاصة بداء النفائس، الشيخ الجليل سلفي العقيدة والمنهج خالد عبد الرحمن العك. فكانت هذه الطبعة المميزة في الشكل والمضمون.
