الحمدلله الذى أحكم ما خلق وقدر، وعدل فيما قسم ودبر، وأنذر بما أنشأ وأظهر، وأستاثر بما أخفى وأسر، وأنعم بما أمر وحظر، وأرشد إلى إنذاره بنوعى تفضيل تميز بهما جنس البشر عن كل حيوان بهم، وهما: نطق بفضى إلى الفهم، وعقل يؤدى إلى العلم، ليعان بهما على ما كلف من أوان التعبد.
وهي نعمة بها قطع الأعذار، ليكون الخلق على رغب يدعوهم إلى الطاعة ورهب يكفهم عن المعصية، وهذا لا يستقر فى النفوس إلا برسل مبلغين عن الله ثوابه فيما أمر، وعقابة فيما حظر، فوجب أن يوضح فى إثبات النبوات ما ينتفى عنه ارتياب مغرور وشبهة معاند، وقد جعلت كتابى هذا مقصورا على ما أفضى ودل عليه، ليكون عن الحق موضحاً، وللسرائر مصلحاً، وعلى صحة النبوة دليلاً، ولشبه المستربب مزيلا، وجعلت ما تضمنه مشتملا على أمرين: أحدهما ما اختص بإثبات النبوة من أعلامها، والثانى: فيما يختلف من أقسامها وأحكامها. ليكون الجمع بينهما أنفى للشبهة، وأبلغ فى الإبانة، وجعلت ما تضمنه هذا: كتابا مشتملا على أحد وعشرين بابا.
