"... الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا دراسة جيدة تستهدف كشف النقاب عن محتوى جماعات الإرهاب المتأسلم وعائها الاجتماعي وغطائها الفكري، ومنطلقاتها وأدواتها.
واختيار الموضوع اختيار واعي لأنه يقتادنا في رحلة استكشاف لمجاهل اجتماعية واقتصادية وسياسية لم تكن مرئية خلال محاولاتنا لرؤية هذه الظاهرة، ولم تكن- فيما اعتقد- محل دراسة متأنية كتلك التي بين أيدينا، أما الفترة (1970- 1985) فهي الفترة الأكثر التهابًا لأنها وبالدقة فترة التكوين، أو كما يسميها المتأسلمون "فترة التمكين".
وهكذا اختار لاباحث ما نحتاج جميعًا إلى بحثه، وعالج البحث معالجة أكاديمية مدققة تحاول أن تستجمع كل أطراف الحقيقة مستخدمًا كل ما هو ممكن من أدوات البحث عنها، فأتت الدراسة متكاملة أو كادت واستكمل ذلك بأناة وإمعان مدقق لكل فكرة أو رأي أو موقف أو خاطرة.
ويكشف لنا د. عبد الله شلبي حقيقة المأساة التي يعاني منها العقل في بلادنا. إذ ينسحق دومًا بين شقي الرحى.. فالحكومات تحاول أن تبرر أو تمرر كل ما ترتكب من أفعال متسترة بغطاء "ديني" لكي تضفي قداسة على ما لا يستحق من أعمال أو مواقف. وتسهم المؤسسات الدينية "الرسمية" في هذه المحاولة، فتخلق بذلك المناخ وتهيء التربة التي ينبت فيها "فيروس" التأسلم، وهي فوق هذا ترفض تحرير العقل "منذ بداية حكم هؤلاء الحكام تحدثوا كثيرًا وتطويلًا عن تحرير الأرض.. ونسوا أو بالدقة تناسوا تحرير العقل". ترفضه رفضًا حاسمًا لأنه يعني النظر الانتقادي، ويعني حق التعبير قولًا وفعلًا، ويعني الرؤية الناقدة التي لا تستسلم أمام ما تقرره أدوات الحكم من دعايات وأقوال وشعارات ومواقف، وهم لا يريدون شيئًا من ذلك، بل ولا يسمحون به، فهم تمامًا كأمراء التأسلم أقوالهم هي مطلق الصحة التي لا تقبل نقاشًا أو فحصًا أو انتقادًا.
ويتولد من هذا المناخ المنكر للعقل وللحرية نبت التأسلم ليكون الشق الآخر للرحى، هو أيضًا ينكر العقل ويرفضه ويعتبره الكافر الذي يتعين الخلاص منه.
