هناك فكرة تتبادر إلى ذهن حتّى المسافر الأقلّ إنتباهاً، منذ أن يخطو خطواته الأولى في مصر السّفلى هذه حيث راكمّ النّيل، منذ أزمنة سحيقة، طَمْيه بطبقات دقيقة؛ إنّها فكرة الحميمية العميقة الي تجمع الفلّاح المصريّ بأرضه، فيغدو مناسباً وصفها بأنّها علاقة راسخة: هو يخرج من هذا الطّين الذي يمشي فيه، وهو مصنوع منه، ولا يكاد يتنزع نفسه منه، شأنه مع أرضه شأن الطّفل مع ثدي المُرضعة، يُقلّبها ويعصرها كي يجعل حليب الخصوبة ينبجس من هذا الضّرع الأسمر...
يبقى الفلاّح المصريّ في أرضه إلى أيد الآبدين مُنتبهاً إلى أدنى ما تحتاجه جدّته العريقة، أرض كيمي السّوداء؛ إن عطشتْ سقاها، وإن أزعجتها كثرة المياه خلّصها منها، وكي لا يجرحها يفلحها بلا آلاتٍ تقريباً؛ يفلحها بيده، ولا يكاد محراثه يلمس أديمها الذي يُغشَّى كلّ سنة بأديمٍ جديدٍ تأتى به الفيضانات.
عندما ترى الفلاّح يذهب ويؤوب على هذا الأرض المبلّلة، تشعر أنّه في مجاله الخاصّ، يُشرف، بملبسه الأزرق الشّبيه بمسموح حبَرٍ، على قران الأرض بالماء، جامعاً بين المبدأين اللّذين يُنتجان الحياة، عندما تُدفئهما الشّمس.
