في كتابه هذا يتوقف "حسيب سليمان زين الدين" عند منعطفات هامة ومفاصل تاريخية بارزة في حياة طائفة الموحدين الدروز من منطلق أنها طائفة عربية إسلامية عريقة، فجاء هذا العمل بكل مراحله شاملاً ما اختزنته تلك المحطات من مشاهد غنية مرتبطة بتاريخ المنطقة ومراحل تاريخها المتعددة والممتدة في عمق الواقع والوجدان.
ما يريد أن يقوله الكاتب أن الموحدين الدروز في كل مراحل تاريخهم كانوا "فرساناً للجزيرة" وقد ربض أمراؤهم وعشائرهم على أبواب الشرق المتوسطي لحماية ثغوره والدفاع عن عروبته وإسلامه... فهذه الشريحة لم تكن يوماً خارج خط العروبة والإسلام... ولم يكن تمسّك الموحدين بقوميتهم ورفضهم لأي مشروع فئوي أو إستقلالي خاص بهم سوى تأكيد على إخلاصهم ووطنيتهم.
وللإحاطة بموضوع الكتاب أكثر يُغني الكاتب بحثه هذا بلمحات من سير وحكم الفلاسفة اليونانيين، أمثال فيثاغورس وأفلاطون وأرسطو وغيرهم من حكماء التاريخ وأعلامه كأخناتون والإسكندر؛ في محاولة للربط بين مسلك العقل والتوحيد الذي يعيشه الموحدين الدروز وبين أولئك الفلاسفة والمعلمين الذين أعطوا للإنسان قيمة روحية وعقلية ومهدوا السبيل لبلورة فكر توحيد عقلاني يستمد قوته من ثوابت الأديان والشرائح التوحيدية.
هذا، وقد ضم هذا الكتاب فصول سبعة يمكن إعتبارها مقاربة صادقة ومحاولة حثيثة معبرة عن روح الجماعة وروح الواقع والتاريخ.
