يتناول هذا الكتاب بالدراسة أدب الفلاسفة العرب حيث ابتدأ المؤلف دراسته بالكندي وإنهاها بابن رشد، وذلك أن الكندي أول فيلسوف عربي ظهر في القرن الثالث الهجري وما وصل إلى الباحثين من مؤلفاته يُعد بداية عهد الفلسفة العربية، وإنّ مَن سبقه يُدرج ضمن النقلة عن فلسفة اليونان وغيرهم.
ويُعَدًّ ابن رشد آخر أعلام الفلاسفة العربية، وتشتمل الرسالة على مدخل وأربعة فصول موزعة على بابين، ويتناول المدخل عبر سبعة مباحث علاقة الفلسفة مع الأدب عوالم وأعلام، ويتناول الباب الأول شعر الفلاسفة، ويعرض الفصل الأول منه أغراض هذا الشعر ومضامينه، ويتناول الفصل الثاني الملامح الفنية في شعر الفلاسفة.
أمّا الباب الثاني فيتناول نثر الفلاسفة، ويعرض الفصل الأول منه نثر الفلاسفة فنونه ومضامينه، أما الفصل الثاني فيعرض إتجاهين للنثر عند الفلاسفة، هما الإتجاه الموضوعي والإتجاه الوجداني.
وتشتمل الرسالة بعد ذلك على خاتمة أوجز فيها إستنتاجات البحث وأحكامه، والملاحظات التي كونتها الدراسة التفصيلية لنتاج الفلاسفة الشعري والنثري.
