عقد معهد التراث العلمي العربي بجامعة حلب بالتعاون مع مركز الدراسات والوثائق في رأس الخيمة في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة الندوة العالمية السادسة لتاريخ العلوم عند العرب في إمارة رأس الخيمة خلال الفترة 16- 19 كانون الأول 1996م – 9 شعبان 1417هـ برعاية سمو الشيخ سلطان بن صقر القاسمي نائب الحاكم بإمارة رأس الخيمة.
وكان الهدف الأساسي من انعقاد الندوة هو التعريف بالعبقرية العربية وإمكانياتها الخلاقة المبدعة، من أجل بعث الثقة بالنفوس وتحفيزها على مزيد من الإرادة والتصميم لبناء المجتمع العربي المتقدم علمياً وتكنولوجياً. وقد تم تسليط الأضواء على منجزات العرب في الميادين التالية:
- تاريخ العلوم الكبية والصيدلانية.
- تاريخ العلوم الأساسية (الرياضيات – الفيزياء – الكيمياء).
- تاريخ علوم الكون والفلك.
- تاريخ العلوم الزراعية والري وعلم الحيوان.
- تاريخ التكنولوجيا.
وقد اشترك في الندوة /41/ باحثاً من العرب والأجانب، توافدوا من الجامعات والمعاهد ومراكز البحوث المهتمة بتاريخ العلوم عند العرب التابعة للدول التالية: إسبانيا - ألمانيا - بلجكا - فرنسا - الهند - مصر - المغرب - الجزائر - تونس - ليبيا - الكويت - لبنان - العراق - الأردن - سورية.
