يتضمن هذا الكتاب دراسة ميدانية أجريت في ضاحية بيروت الجنوبية، عملت على إلقاء الضوء على ظاهرة عمالة الأولاد التي أصبحت تشكل بتفاقمها مشكلة اجتماعية خطيرة لا سيما إن الأطفال هم جيل المستقبل الذي نعلق عليه آمالنا في النهوض بالبلد وازدهارها بعد الحرب التي طالت في البداية ثم عرض حيثيات المشكلة في العالم والبلدان العربية وصولاً للبنان.
ومن ثم تم التوقف عند القوانين التي نصت على حماية الطفل العامل، وبحثت مختلف العوامل المسببة للعمل مع الأخذ بعين الاعتبار المخاطر المترتبة عن العمل في سن مبكرة على الصعيد النفسي، الاجتماعي، التربوي، الصحي. بعد ذلك تم تناول مواصفات العينة ومنهجية البحث من خلال تحديد المنطقة الجغرافية والعينة التي ستبنى عليها الدراسة إضافة إلى الأسباب التي دفعت الباحثين إلى اختيار هذا الموضوع مع التركيز على الفرضيات التي تعد ركيزة هذه الدراسة.
وفي مرحلة ثالثة تم الإجابة على الغرض من هذا البحث من خلال الدراسة الميدانية التي أجريت في ضاحية بيروت الجنوبية وتحديداً في منطقة الشياح، وقد تم التركيز على فرضيات هذا البحث، إضافة إلى تقديم بعض المقترحات بخصوص عمالة الأولاد.
