إن كتاب "تاريخ الشيعه وفرقها" تأليف أبي محمد الحسن بن موسى النوبختى" هو من الكتب القديمة النادرة الوجود الجلية القدر المحتوية على أخبار تاريخية لا يجدها الباحث فى تاريخ دين الإسلام فى غيرها من الكتب لتضمنها أخبارا عن فرق من الأمة الإسلامية قد مضت وانقرضت وفنيت فى الأكثر وخمل ذكرها فقل وصل إلى عصرنا من أخبارها وعز ما حوفظ عليه فى خزائن العلم من آثارها لأن المنتمين إلى تلك الطوائف والمنتحلين لتلك المذاهب قد بادوا فى القرن الأولى من الهجرة أو دخلوا فى الفرق الرئيسية افسلامية الباقية إلى أيامنا وانتصور إلى ألويتها وانطووا فى سجلاتها فصارت لذلك الكتب المحتوية على أخبارها والمخبرة عن مذاهبها وعقائدها أغرب من الغراب الأبيض لأن أيادي الزمان جارت عليها وطوحت بأكثرها إلى مشارق الأرض ومغاربها. ومن هذا القبيل كتب "بن موسى النوبختى" الذى كان من كبار متكلمى الشيعة الإمامية.
