هذا كتاب عنك أنت عزيزى القارئ. إنه ليس كتابا عن الإسلام العظيم، ولا عن نبيه الكريم، ولا عن النصوص وماحملت والتأويلات وما جمعت، وإنما عن المسلم وما وعى. إنه ليس كتابا فى العقيدة وإنما فى الاعتقاد، ليس كتابا فى التنظير لعلاقة الإسلام بالديقراطية من باب ماينبغى أن يكون، وإنما هو كتاب عن المسلمين، وإن شئت فقل شريحة منهم، وكيف يتعاملون مع الديمقراطية وبدائلها قبولا أو رفضا شئت فقل شريحة منهم، وكيف يتعاملون مع الديمقراطية وبدائلها قبولا أو رفضا.
وكي يكون الكتاب أكثر تحديدا، فهو يجتهد فى الإجابة عن السؤال التالى: هل هناك عداء حقيقى بين المسلمين والقيم الديمقراطية؟ فإذا كانت شعوب العالم الأخرى تناضل من أجل الديمقراطية على نحو ما رأينا فى رومانيا وأوكرانيا وجورجيا وتشيلى وجنوب إفريقيا وفنزويلا وغيرها، فلماذا نفعل مثلهم؟ أم نحن نفعل؟
