تحت عنوان (الرواية العربية .. الذاكرة والتاريخ" يجمع هذا الكتاب أبحاث ملتقى الباحة الأدبي الخامس (1433ه) الذي تضمن مشاركات الباحثين والنقاد العرب ودراساتهم حول الرواية العربية عموماً والرواية السعودية خصوصاً. وبلغت (27) مشاركة تشتمل محاورها على: العلاقة الجدلية بين الرواية والتاريخ والرواية والتاريخ الشفاهي، والتحولات التاريخية والإجتماعية في الرواية العربية، وأشكال توظيف التاريخ في الرواية العربية.
يبدأ الكتاب بدراسة عن "الرواية والتأريخ السحري للحاضر" / د. محمد حسانين من مصر، وهي مساءلة عن جماليات الرواية العربية الجديدة وقدرتها على ممارسة التأريخ، ويتخذ الكاتب فيها ثلاث روايات للروائي الجزائري واسيني الأعرج محوراً للتحليل النصي ... أما الدراسة الثانية فكانت بعنوان "التنازع بين التخييل والمرجع في الرواية التاريخية" د. محمد نجيب العمامي والذي يحاول استناداً إلى نص روائي هو "رحمانة" للتونسي حسنين بن عمّو أن يبرز العلاقة بين التخييل والمرجع في هذا النوع من الروايات التاريخية. أما عن (العلاقة بين الرواية والتاريخ) فقدم الدكتور سلطان بن سعد القحطاني دراسة عن الرواية التاريخية وتعريفها وانبثاقها من المادة التاريخية، عند الكتّاب الغربيين وامتدادها إلى الشرق العربي ... وأما عن (رواية العلاّمة) كانت مشاركة للدكتور عبد الحق بلعابد بعنوان (العقل السردي بين قصدية التخييل وصدقية التاريخ في رواية العلامة لبن سالم حميش، وقد استرجع فيها الكاتب شخصية فكرية عربية إسلامية وهي العلاّمة إبن خلدون في مقدمته وتاريخه وتعريفه بسيرة حياته ... وعلى هذا الدرب تسير أبحاث هذا الكتاب حول تجربة الكتابة في الرواية التاريخية فتقدم نماذج عن تشكيل التاريخ في النص الروائي لعدد من الكتّاب العرب نذكر منهم د. آمنة بلعلي، وسلطان بن محمد الخرعان، ود. زهور كرام، ود. محمد الضبع وآخرون.
