دخل شعر إيران في القرن العشرين الميلادي ألفيَّته الثّانية؛ الألفيّة ذات الطابع الخاصّ، المستوجب لأدب مغايرٍ ومتمايزٍ عمّا سبقه من الآداب في المراحل السّابقة، وأوضح دليل على هذا الإدعاء هو أنه لو أراد شاعر ما في هذه الأيام أن يستغرق تماماً في عالم البيوطيقا الكلاسيكية، فإن نتيجة عمله لن تكون شيئاً جذاباً.
كما لم يتخطّى شعر إيران حتى ما قبل دخول العقد السّابع حدود التقليد الأدبي والثقافي بصورة كاملة، بل إن "التقليد" تابع وجوده داخله بشكل مختلف.
وكان التياران مسميان بشعر "الحجم والموج النقي" مشعر حجم / موج ناب، وحدهما على إستعداد للخروج من التقليد، ولكن هذين أيضاً بسبب ضعف مباني علم الجمال فيهما، لم يصلا إلى النتيجة المرجوة.
لم يُرِد الشّعر الحر ولم يستطع التحرر من إطار الوزن والقافية الفولاذيّين، وتحرّك الشّعر المنثور من حيث النظرة الشمولية الشاعرية نهاية في الخطوط الأصليّة للتقليد، هذا ليس حكماً تقويمياً، بل إن كلامنا ذو جانب وصفي، فأشخاص كفروغ فرخزاد أيضاً قد وقفوا من الناحية الفكريّة في أقصى مسافة من التقليد، ولم يصلوا إلى تعريف واضح للحداثة كما لم يستطيعوا هندسة وتدوين نظام جمالي جديد يتمتع بهويّة مستقلة عن التقليد.
إن السّبعينات والثّمانينات هي نقطة إنعطاف في تاريخ الشعر في إيران، ويتطلّب بحث شعر هذه المرحلة بحد ذاته مجالاً مستقلاً، ويطلب أسساً نظريّة أخرى، ولهذا السبب بالذات لا نستطيع - على رغم إصرار بعض الأصدقاء المنتقدين - أن نتحدث حول شعر ما بعد الثورة الإسلامية في هذا البحث؛ الذي يهدف إلى دراسة شعر إيران بين الثورتين.
