إن التاريخ المصري ليس حقاً لفرد بعينه، وإنما هو حق للشعب المصري كله، وهذا الكتاب يضم بين صفحاته مذكرات وحوارات لثلاث من الشخصيات المهمة والمؤثرة في تاريخ الوطن، أول هذه الشخصيات الأستاذ محمد التابعي الذي كان على صلة وثيقة بالقصر ورجاله وأيضاً بالأحزاب السياسية وزعمائها قبل الثورة، والذي يكتب لنا في مذكراته عن حادث 4 فبراير عام 1942 الشهير، وما صاحبه من تداعيات خطيرة ومهمة بين الملك والإنجليز والنحاس باشا.
ويتناول الكتاب أيضاً مذكرات اللواء محمد نجيب أول رئيس للجمهورية بعد قيام الثورة، حيث نجد في هذه المذكرات تفصيلات الحياة اليومية التي كان يعيشها اللواء محمد نجيب في معتقله في فيلا المرج، والتي لم يكن أحد يعلم عنها شيئاً.
وأيضاً يتناول الكتاب حوارات مع السيد زكريا محيي الدين الرجل الذي تولى العديد من المناصب المهمة والخطيرة، والتي تعدّ شهادة خطيرة لواحد من أهم رجال الثورة، حيث يتحدث عن فكر الضباط الأحرار في بداية الثورة، وعن القوائم السوداء ومراقبة التليفونات، التي كانت موجودة قبل الثورة وبعدها. وعن الرسالة السرية التي طلب منها عبد الناصر أن يحملها إلى ليندون جونسون الرئيس الأمريكي آنذاك...
والكتاب في مجمله جزء مهم من التاريخ المصري.
