لماذا هذه المذكرات الآن وقد مضى عليها مئة سنة؟ فقط لنذكر بأن ما ينعم به أبناء لبنان من حرية وعزة وسؤدد إنما هو بفضل نضالات وتفاني لبنانيين كبشارة جرجس البواري وأمثاله. ومن الطبيعي في درب النضال وباسمه أن يوجد بعض الطفيليين والفريسين السماسرة وتجار الهيكل، لصوص يتربصون متحينين الفرص للاستفادة، ومد يدهم إلى ما ليس لهم، وأبناؤهم وأحفادهم صاروا حكاماً ونواباً ووزراء. كي لا ننسى نضالات من سبقونا، ومن أرسوا أسس وطن وكيان، والبواري واحد من هؤلاء.
فلولا جهوده ورفاقه قبل مئة عام وتضحياتهم ومساعداتهم للناس لما كان لهم أحفاد يقرأون هذه المذكرات الآن.
البواري ويوسف كرم وبولس عقل ورفاقهم ممن تنكبوا مسؤولية إيصال المساعدات لم يسْعوا إلى مجد ولا إلى دعاية، ناضلوا (وحبل المشنقة في مخيلتهم) بصمت من دون ضجيج، بتواضع وتفانٍ والمبادرة عن قناعات مبدئية، من دون تعريض أكتاف (بوزات) أو تمنين أو هوْبَرة لتغطي على نضالات الآخرين أو تطغى عليها.
وطن صغير بحجمه كبير بنضالات أبنائه، وعلى رأسهم البطريرك الماروني الياس الحويك والخوري بولس عقل ويوسف كرم والبواري وشهدان وأخوه والعريسي وعمر حمد وعمر فاخوري وسعيد عقل وشكري العسلي وعبدالكريم الخليل والأخوان فيليب وفريد الخازن ويوسف دريان ورفيق العظم وشفيق مؤيد العظم ورشيد نخلة والأخوان محمد ومحمود محمصاني وجبران خليل جبران وفؤاد حداد وآلاف غيرهم ممّن أثمرت جهودهم.
وتتكرر الدعوات والشعارات باسم التغيير والثورة منذ دعوات الجهاد المتبادلة بين (1914 و1918)، دعوة الشريف حسين والبريطانيين من جهة ودعوة السلطان العثماني والألمان من جهة أخرى. والدعوات لا تزال مستمرة بشعارات مختلفة (الربيع العربي) والخيبات المتتالية وتدميرها المتواصل لثرواتها المادية بيدها ليعود أمراء الحرب باسم إعادة الإعمار إلى ترؤس البلاد، ومن يعش يرَ ويتعرف على فساد حكام اليوم ما يجعله يترحم على الحكام السابقين الفاسدين.
