في هذه التتمة التي طال انتظارها لكتابه الشهير (صناعة الهولوكوست)، ينتقل نورمان ج.فنكلستين من التحقيق الذي يحطم المعتقدات السائدة -فيما يخص اللإسلامية الجديدة- إلى عرض موثق بدقة لفساد الأبحاث الأكاديمية بشأن صراع إسرائيل-فلسطين.

يمحص فنكلستين أيضاً بانتشار التشويهات المتنكرة بعباءة الأبحاث التاريخية. ويستحضر حالة كتاب الباحثة جون بيترز الذي عنوانه (منذ زمان سحيق) والذي صدر عام 1984 وسط موجه من الإعجاب والتقريظ، ولكن تبين لاحقاً أنه عبارة عن خدعة أكاديمية، ويطرح فنكلستين أسئلة عميقة مثيرة للقلق حول الظهور المنتظم للأبحاث الأكاديمية الزائفة المديح المتهافت الذي تتلقاه. ويحاج بأن أحدث إضافة إلى هذا النوع من الكتب التزييفية، هو الكتاب الذي أصدره بروفيسور القانون في جامعة هارفرد، آلان ديرشويتس، بعنوان (مرافعة لإسرائيل)، وأصبح من أكثر الكتب مبيعاً.
التحليل الأساسي في كتاب ما يفوق الوقاحة يقارن بين مزاعم ديرشوتيس بشأن سجل إسرائيل في مجال حقوق الإنسان مع النتائج التي خرجت بها منظمات التيار العام المعنية بحقوق الإنسان. وبعد أن يمحص فنكلستين في آلاف الصفحات من تقارير منظمة العفو الدولية، ومنظمة بتسليم الإسرائيلية، ومنظمة هيومان رايتس ووتش، ومنظمات أخرى، يعرض أول خلاصة واضحة من نوعها لاستنتاجات المنظمات الرئيسي في مجال حقوق الإنسان، ويظهر كيف عمد ديرشويتس إلى تزييف الحقائق بصفة منتظمة.
يتميز كتاب ما يفوق الوقاحة بشمولية البحث ومتانة الحجج ويرفع النقاب عن الخلافات التي تحيط بصراع إسرائيل - فلسطين، مما يمكن القراء الساعين إلى تحقيق سلام عادل ودائم أن يتصرفوا إستناداً إلى الحقيقة.
