يحاول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب نصح المسلم وإرشاده إلى اتخاذ مسلكاً وطريقاً تعبدياً، وذلك كي يبعد عن هفوات هذه الدنيا، وليبتعد عن الوقوع في ملهيات الشيطان التي تستحوذ على بني البشر، حيث تقربه العبادة من الله وتجعل لنفسه حصناً منيعاً يستطيع به مواجهة أي عدو جسدياً كان أو نفسياً.
وكان منهجه في ذلك كالتالي: 1-ابتدأ كما ابتدأ به ممن سبقوه في توحيد الله تبارك وتعالى وأن الاتصال الرئيسي به تعالى هو الأساس في فتح الطريق له، 2-جعل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وآله الطيبين الطاهرين هم الأساس في واسطة الاتصال بين الخالق والمخلوق من حيث سبب خلقهم وأنهم الأساس في هذا العلم، 3-أدخل المؤلف طريقة المواعظ والنصائح، علماً أنه لم يفعلها أبداً ممن سبقوه، وهي عملية الغرض منها منع النفس وتنزيهها عن المعاصي، 4-استعمل الأوراد والأدعية والأذكار بصورة كبيرة. وقد استعمل طريقة الدعاء والأذكار لأنها السبب الرئيسي للاتصال بين العابد ومعبوده، وهي الخيط الموصل إلى مرضاة الله تبارك وتعالى دون غيرها.
