من فضل الله تعالى على البشرية أنه خلق الإنسان وخلق معه الغذاء والدواء ليقيه من جميع الأمراض التي قد تصيبه، قديماً عرف الإنسان العلاج الغذائي والعشبي وتطور استخدام هذا العلاج في الطب حتى صارت الأعشاب والنباتات الخضراء والفاكهة أهم المصادر الطبيعية للدواء، من المعروف أن الجهاز التنفسي- بمفهومه الواسع- هو المسئول عن تنفس الإنسان، كما أن كل خلية في جسم الإنسان تتنفس، وهو ما يسمي بالتنفس الداخلي، ولذا يكون المفهوم الأصلي للجهاز التنفسي منحصراً في مسئوليته عن التنفس الخارجي؛ أي أنه مسئول عن دخول الأكسجين وخروج ثاني أكسيد الكربون؛ فالأكسجين هو المسئول عن استمرار الحياة، أما ثاني اكسيد الكربون فهو من الغازات الخانقة وعدم خروجه من الجسم أثناء الزفير يؤدي إلى اختناق، ودخول الأكسجين وخروج ثاني أكسيد الكربون هما المسئولية الأساسية للجهاز التنفسي الخارجي، ولأن العلاقة وثيقة بين تلوث البيئة وارتفاع نسبة الإصابة بالأمراض الصدرية كان لابد من الانتفاع بكل ما هو طبيعي في علاج أمراض الجهاز التنفسي مع العودة من جديد إلى العلاج بالأعشاب والنباتات الطبية بعد أن ظهر للعالم ما تحمله بعض العقاقير الكيماوية من أضرار ومخاطر، ولا ننسى دائماً الحكمة التي تقول: "الوقاية خير من العلاج" وعلى الله قصد السبيل.
