سيف الدين عبد الفتاح من مواليد القاهرة نوفمبر 1954، التحق بكلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية وتخرج منها في عام 1978 بتقدير امتياز، يعتبر من أحد انبغ تلامذة الدكتور حامد ربيع، حصل على الماجستير والدكتوراه في النظرية السياسية " فكر سياسي إسلامي" له فضل كبير في بناء المفاهيم في الفكر السياسي الإسلامي.
ويعمل الدكتور سيف الدين عبد الفتاح أستاذاً بقسم العلوم السياسية – بكلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية - جامعة القاهرة من عام 1998م، ومستشارا أكاديميا للمعهد العالمي للفكر الإسلامي، القاهرة. وعضو هيئة تدريس بجامعة العلوم الإسلامية والاجتماعية – بفرجينيا.

فى محاولة لتحديد مصطلحات دينية وبيان معانيها التى إختلطت فيها فكان منها ما هو مقصود بخير شادت الظروف ان تلصق به التهم فيصير مصطلح سئ السمعة ونأخذ مثلا على هذا " التجديد" فى فهم التجديد ولافرق بينه وبين التحديث وغيرها من المفاهمي الإسلامية نوضحها فى ها الكتاب حتى تجلو الحقيقة أمام أعين القراء ونقف فى مواجهة الحملات المغرضة على إسلامنا الحنيف كما أننا لا نقف فى مكاننا فنجمع بين الأصل والتقدم دون ان تحيد عن أساسنا الإسلامى الذى أراده لنا الله ورسوله حول تلك المفاهيم والمصطلحات يدور النقاش بين صفحات هذا الكتاب الذى امامكم.
