يقوم الإسلام على مبادىء أساسية ؛ من وحدانية الله والإيمان برسالة نبيه الكريم ، والإرتباط الدائم بالله تعالى بالصلاة وتربية النفس وتعويدها على الصبر بصوم رمضان ، وعلى البذل والتكافل الإجتماعي بدفع الزكاة ، ووحدة الأمة بالحج إلى بيت الله الحرام ، وحتى أن البعض يرى أن البعض يرى أن الأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر هو المبدأ الخامس في الإسلام ، وبذلك صنع المسلمون عبر التاريخ أمة متماسكة قوية مرهوبة الجانب ، وصنعوا حضارة عظيمة خالدة ، كما بشرت رسالة الإسلام بمبادىء وقيم سامية تحقق خير الإنسانية تقوم على وحدة الجنس البشري ، وأن الناس متساوون في الحقوق والواجبات ، كلهم سواء لا أفضلية لأحد على أحد إلا بالتقوى ، وبذلك تحقق الأمن والتكافل الإجتماعي .
وهذه الدراسة جاءت لتسلط الضوء على الواقع الإسلامي كما هو واضح من عنوان هذا البحث ، من خلال ثلاثة عناوين ، معالم قوة المجتمع الإسلامي ، أسباب ضعفه ، ووسائل نهوضه ، فمعالم القوة هي تعاليم وروح الإسلام من خلال القرآن والسّنة . وتتطرق أسباب الضعف إلى الممارسات في تنفيذ هذه التعاليم وتوضح مدى الإلتزام أو الإبتعاد عنها هو أهم أسباب الضعف وتراجع قوة المسلمين ، ففي الحالتين القوة والضعف هما من المسلمين وليس من الدين نفسه والتاريخ يثبت ذلك . أما وسائل نهوضه فهي بالواقع الإعتراف بالخلل ومن ثم إصلاحه ، ونحن بذلك نحلل واقع المجتمع الإسلامي الآن وما يجب أن يكون عليه مستقبلاً ، وعلينا الإعتراف أن حال المسلم الراهن لا يسر صديقاً ولا يغيض عدواً بل يضعنا على هامش التاريخ وفي أدنى ترتيب الأمم .
