تُعَدُّ لاَميَّةُ العجم لمؤيّد الدين الطُّغْرَائي (515هـ) من فرائد القصائد الجياد التي أبدعتها القرائح العربية عبر عصور الأدب العربي المختلفة، فكُتب لها الخلود، وقُضِيَ لها بالبقاء، فحفظها الأدباء وتَبَادَهُوا بها، وانكبّ عليها الشعراء مُعارضةً وتخميساً وتشطيراً، وتضافر على شرحها العلماء والنقاد، وما إخالها قد اكتسبت هذه المكانة السّامية العليّة إلا لصدق التَّجربة الشعرية لصاحبها، وعُلوّ كعبه في قرض الشعر ونظمه، ثم لما تضمنته أبياتها من رؤية صائبة للحياة والأحياء، وما اكتنفه نصوصُها من مُثُل رفيعة، وأخلاق سامية، يحرص على التحلّي بها السادة والنبلاء.
ولعلّ أجْلَى مظهرٍ لعنايةٍ العلماء بها يتمثّل في الشروح المتعددة التي قامت على أبياتها، بِدْءاً من أبي البقاء العُكبري، المتوفى سنة ست عشرة وستمائة، الذي يعدّ من أوائل من أقدم على شرحها وفكّ ما استغلق من ألفاظها، وإنتهاء بعصرنا الحديث.
ويعدّ الشرح الذي صنعه الصلاح الصفدي (764هـ) الغرّة الشّادخة لتلك الشروح، فهو من أشهرها وأشيعها، وأعظمها مكانة، وأوعبها لمسائل اللغة والنحو والبلاغة والغريب، ومن أكثرها تداولاً وتأثيراً في من جاء بعده، ومن أبرز سمات هذا التأثير أن جلّ الشروح التالية له، إن لم نقل كلها، لم تستطع البعد عنه، والإنفكاك من قبضته وأَسْرِه، فدارت في فلكه، تلخيصاً وتهذيباً ونقداً.
وهذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا الآن من الأعمال التي قامت على هذا الشرح الموسوعي الزّاخر، فهو ليس شرحاً على هذه القصيدة بالمعنى الصحيح للشرح، كما وَهَمَ بعضُ الدارسين، وإنما هو نقدٌ لشرح الصفدي، وإعتراضٌ عليه، وتبيانٌ لأخطائه في التفسير، وتقصيره في فهم مراد الشاعر.
وهو من تصنيف محمد بن أبي بكر القرشي المخزومي، الشهير ببدر الدين الدماميني، أحد أئمة العلم والقضاء والتأليف في القرنين الثامن والتاسع الهجريين، المولود بثغر الإسكندرية عام ثلاثة وستين وسبعمائة، والمتوفَّى بالهند سنة ثمان وعشرين وثمانمائة.
