إن التراث الشعبي علم وفن ودراسة، من هذا المنطلق سعى عبد الرحمن سعود لجمع ألوان من التراث الشعبي وذلك من خلال موقعه كمسؤول في إدارة الآثار والمتاحف، حيث أهله ذلك لجمع معلومات حول التراث الشعبي وحول معلومات من أهل الاختصاص من الحرفيين وغيرهم حول الكثير من الموضوعات التراثية. تلك كانت بحدّ ذاتها تجربة بالنسبة للمؤلف رائعة مليئة بالمعلومات والطرائف. وقبل كل هذا كان والده مصدراً أساسياً للكثير من الموروثات الشعبية وخاصة في مجال حرفته (القلافة) صناعة السفن التقليدية.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك قام المؤلف بمسوحات ميدانية للموروث الشعبي المتميز في عدد من دول الخليج، كما أنه كان له إسهام في بعض أعمال الدراسة والبحث لنشر عدد من الكتب المتخصصة في التراث الشعبي لذا فإن هذا الكتاب يأتي كمحاولة شخصية للمؤلف للمّ شعث كل ذلك بالإضافة إلى دراسات ومقالات كان قد نشرها في مجلة البحرين والتي تدور في مجملها حول التراث الشعبي.
