عبد الرحمن عبد الرحمن سيد أحمد البرقوقي، المعروف ﺑ «عبد الرحمن البرقوقي»: أديب وناقد مصري، ولد بمحافظة الغربية عام ١٨٧٦م، تعلَّم في الأزهر الشريف، ودرس على يد الشيخ المرصفي، كما استفاد من دروس الإمام محمد عبده. أصدر بحُرِّ مالهِ مجلةً شهرية سُميت بمجلة «البيان»، وكان يكتب بها العديد من عمالقة الأدب أمثال العقاد والمازني وشكري وغيرهم. وللبرقوقي العديد من المؤلفات؛ منها «شرح ديوان المتنبي» و«شرح ديوان حسان». وقد توفي عام ١٩٤٤م.

هذا كتاب وضعته قديما وأسميته "حضارة العرب في الأندلس" ولقد أشرب قلبي مذ طراءة العمر وريعان الصبى وجن النشاط حب التاريخ الإسلامي عامة وتاريخ هذا الفرع الأندلسي منه خاصة- فكان مما عنيت به فضل عناية، وكان مما أولعت به الولوع كله، النظر في تاريخ الأندلس وحضارة العرب بها منذ افتتاجهم إياها إلى تأذن الله لهم، وكلب عليهم الأسبانيون، وأني لأتقرى يوما تاريخ أبي الفداء إذ صدف أن أخذت عينى هذا الخبر الذي لا حفل له، والذي يقتحمكه في العادة النظر، ولا يكاد يتلفت اليه او يتوقف عليه ، وهو ما رواه من "أنه في سنة 345 هجرية عمل عبد الرحمن الناصر صاحب الأندلس مركبا كبيرا وحشد فيه كثير من بضائع الأندلس وأرسله إلى بلاد المشرق لتباع هذه البضائع هناك وتستبدل منها بضائع مشرقية" ففتحت على هذه العبارة أبوابا من وراء أبواب وامتدت الكلمة في نفسي حتى خرج من حروفها كتاب وألهمت أن أضع ما جمعت من علم الأندلس كله في صدر رحالة مصرييقوم من الاسكندرية وافدا إلى الأندلس في مركب الناصر هذا- فهو يرى ويسمع ويقص ويدون ويصف ويستعين بما يعلمه وما يراه وما يفتق له الخاطر ويهيئ الفكر- في رسائل يضمنها وصف تلك الحضارة على اختلاف ألوانها وشتى فنونها، وصف مؤرخ أديب فيلسوف يرحل للتاريخ وفلسفته فيدرسه في كتبه وفي مواضعه ورجاله وأسبابه وحوادثه، وبذلك يستجمعه من أطرافه ويحويهمن أكنافه.
وقد وضعت خمس رسائل يكون عنوان الأولى " من الاسكندرية إلى المرية" والثانية "من المرية إلى قرطبة" والثالثة "مقامي في قرطبة" والرابعة "العلوم والآداب والفنون في الاندلس" والخامسة "تقويم الاندلس وتاريخها"..
