إنها رواية عن أولئك الموتى الذين اختاروا التخلي عن سبل الخلق، اختاروا مضاجعة الكره لا الحب، أولئك الذين يتنفسون من أجل أن يَقتِلوا ويُقتَلوا. وكوكونا تكتب قصة خرافة أن تصبح أية حماقة هي "ذريعة مناسبة للقتل من أجل الشرف". تسرد سيرة مكان دخل الشرّ فيه كشظية ثم انتشر مثل شجرة البلوط. مكان توارى مع أصوات بشر مضوا يقتلون بعضهم بعضاً لاسترداد مفهوم الشرف، بشر خافوا من الحياة وعاشوا مع الكراهية "البشر الذين نبذوا رحمتهم الفطرية باعتبارها ضعف". رواية تَقرأ بصوت عالٍ ضجيج التاريخ وهذيان النزاعات والحروب، تحتفظ منها بكل ما هو غير متوقع. إنها رواية عن سكيندير. وقد تكون عن سوريا، عن لبنان، عن العراق، عن بلدان وبلدان.. على مدى 525 صفحة من القطع المتوسط، يقبض الموت على البيوت والشوارع والشباب والأرواح. نقرأ : "المدينة في حالة فوضى. لقد نُهبت من أولها إلى آخرها. وأي سلع تصل تصادرها العصابات على نقاط التفتيش. الناس مرعوبون. معظمهم يموت جوعا. يبحثون عن فتات يقتاتون به. اليأس يسكن عيونهم. السوق السوداء وحدها مزدهرة..".
في هذه الرواية يقترح الموضوع لغته ويسير بعيدا عن التكلّف. لا شيء أكثر هدوءً في زخم الموت من لغة يومية مشتقة من حال شخصيات الرواية بتنوعها:" أبدأ بتحضير المصائد. تسألني "ماذا تفعل؟". "مصائد لأضمن أمانك". فأنا ذاهب إلى المدينة لأجلب لك الدواء". "سأكون في أمان. لقد أشعلت لي ناراً، تبقي الحيوانات بعيداً.". "هذه المصائد ليست ضد الحيوانات" "من أجل الناس، إذن؟ لكنها ستؤذيهم، حتى أنها قد تقتلهم."
