كان شيخنا محمد بن صالح العثيمين "رحمه الله" من أئمة الهدى، ومصابيح الدجى، والأبدال المجددين الذين علا نجمهم، واشتهر فضلهم وذكرهم على رأس القرن الخامس عشر الهجري، وكان من فضل الله على أن اتصلت أسبابي بحكم المنشأ في مدينتنا "عنيزة" ثم شرعت في ملازمة دروسه عام ألف وأربعمائة، ولم أزل على صلة بها إلى وفاته "رحمه الله"
وكنت أسأله خلال هذه السنوات عما يعن لي من مسائل، وما يملني بعض الناس من استفتاءات لفضيلته، ثم بدا لي أن أدون ما أسمع منه من أجوبة، لأرجع إليها عند الحاجة، فشرعت في التقييد في النصف من سنة سبع عشرة وأربعمائة وألف، وليتني تقدمت، ولم يدر بخلدي حينذاك إلا أني أكتبها لنفسي، فاجتمع لي على مر السنوات الأربع الاخيرة من عمره المبارك جملة طيبة من المسائل بلغت نحوًا من ستمائة مسألة.
وقد ظللت أرجع إلى هذه الأجوبة المفيدة، أستنير لفقه شيخنا في مختلف النوازل المماثلة والمشابهة في حياته وبعد وفاته، ولما اطلع عليها بعض إخواني من طلبة العلم دعاني إلى إخراجها ونشرها لتعم بها الفائدة، فاستخرت الله تعالى في ذلك، نشرًا للعلم، وتعميمًا للنفع، فقمت بمراجعتها، وتخريج أحاديثها، والتعليق على بعض المواضع، وتصنيفها على أبواب الفقه المعروفة، ليسهل الرجوع إليها، والبحث فيها وسميتها "ثمرات التدوين من مسائل ابن عثيمين".
