يبحث الكتاب في علم القراءات القرآنية ووجوهها عند الأئمة. تصدر الكتاب بمقدمة المحقق، ذكر فيها تاريخ تدوين القرآن في الصحف، وتحدث عن الأحرف السبعة ومعناها، وعن أئمة القراءات، ترجم لهم وعرف بمؤلف الكتاب، الإمام العماني، وبين أهمية كتابه هذا وتفرده وميزته من كتب القراءات الأخرى.
يحتوي هذا الكتاب على القراءات الثماني عن الأئمة الثمانية الذين روى المؤلف قراءاتهم، وهم ابن كثير، ونافع، وأبو عمرو، وعبد الله بن عامر، وعاصم، وحمزة، والكسائي، ويعقوب بن إسحاق إمام أهل البصرة، وأورد أسانيدهم.
تحدث المؤلف عن فضل التجويد، وعن الحروف ومدارجها وألقابها ومخارجها، وعن الاستعاذة والبسملة.
ثم قسم كتابه إلى أبواب، وهي أبواب الإدغام، وأبواب الهمزة، وأبواب الإمالة، وأبواب الياءات. وختم بأبواب عامة، تتعلق بثواب تلاوة القرآن، وبعدد سوره وآياته وحروفه وكلماته، وأوائل السور ,السبب الموجب لتقديم فاتحة الكتاب على سوره، وأشباه ذلك.
وفي الكتاب تفصيلات واسعة لوجوه القرارات وتوجيهها ولآراء القراء واللغويين فيها.
هذا والمخطوط نسخة فريدة لم يفع المحقق على غيرها.
