واجهت الطبيعة الكلاسيكية العديد من الظواهر التي فشلت في تفسيرها ولقد كان العالم بلانك اول من اقترح نظرية الكم سنة 1900 عند محاولته تفسير أحد هذه الظواهر والمعروفة باسم مشكلة منحنيات الإشعاعات الصادرة عن الجسم السواد الساخن والتي توضح العلاقة بين الطاقة الإشعاعية المنبعثة أو الطول الموجي لها.
يتناول هذا الكتاب بعض مفردات منهج ميكانيكا الكم لطلبة وطالبات كليات الجامعة مثل العلوم والتربية، وموضوع الكتاب يمثل فرعاً رئيسياً من فروع الفيزياء الحديثة ذات الأهمية القصوى. وقد تم معالجة موضوعات بأسلوب واضح مفصل لتعميق المفاهيم الأساسية والسيطرة على بعض المعالجات الصعبة لدى الطالب، عبر سبعة أبواب هي: -الباب الأول: يتناول منشأ مفهوم الكم وتطبيقاته ويستعرض جهود العلماء في الربع الأول من القرن العشرين وظهور مفهوم الكم وتطبيقاته ويستعرض جهود العلماء في الربع الأول من القرن العشرين وظهور مفهوم الخاصة الثنائية للإشعاع. –الباب الثاني: يتناول ظهور الميكانيكا الموجبة مع فرض "دى برولي" عن موجات المادة والتحقيق العملي من ذلك وظهور مفهوم الخاصة الثنائية للمادة وظهور مفهوم المؤثرات الديناميكية واشتقاق معادلة شرودنجر وهي معادلة الحركة لموجات المادة. –الباب الثالث: يمثل تطبيقات عليها لحل بعض المسائل في ميكانيكا الكم مثل جسيم داخل صندوق مثل المتذبذب التواقة البسيط. –الباب الرابع: يبدأ بتناول دالة دلتا ديراك ثم المؤتمر الديناميكي لكمية الحركة الزاوية في الإحداثيات الكرية ثم فضاء هيلبرت الإتجاهي ونبذة عن دوال جرين مع تطبيقات. –الباب الخامس: يمثل المعالجة الكمية لذرة الهيدروجين كمثال لحركة جسيم في مجال قوة مركزية جاذبة وتفسير طيف ذرة الهيدروجين. –الباب السادس: يمثل المعالجة الكمية لموضوع الإستطارة. –الباب السابع: يشتمل على مجموعة من المسائل والتمارين مع حلها وذلك لزيادة قدرة الطالب على التعامل مع مسائل ميكانيكا الكم.
