هذا المعجم الموسوعي حول علم الكيمياء الحيوية ربما يكون الأول من نوعه ظهوراً باللغة العربية وهو مجهود قصد منه اللحاق بركب التطور المتسارع في التوسع بالمفردات والمعاني والمصطلحات التي صاحبت الثورة المعلوماتية في العلوم الكيميائية. وهذ المعجم الموسوعي في محتواه, فريد في طريقة عرضه وشرحه للمفردات المستعملة, مميز في شموليته لمعظم ما يمكن أن يصادف المستعمل العربي من مصطلحات في مجال الكيمياء الحيوية.
منذ حوالي عقدين اضطلع المكتب الإقليمي لمنظمة الصحة العالمية لشرق البحر المتوسط بتكوين مجموعة من أفاضل الأساتذة تحت إشراف وتنسيق العلامة الأستاذ الدكتور محمد هيثم الخياط بإصدار المعجم الطبي الموحد بالتعاون مع مجلس وزراء الصحة العرب, واتحاد الأطباء العرب, والمنظمة العربية للتربية والثقافة والعلوم... وكان الغرض منه توحيد المصطلح الطبي في كل الدول العربية.
لقد حاولت أن ألتزم قدر المستطاع بما جاء في معجم الطب الموحد- فإن لم أجد فيه ما يلبي الغرض- عدت إلى ما توفر لدي من معاجم أخرى- أو حاولت أن أجد مفردة سهلة لا تعجز القارئ- وأنا أدعي أنني وفقت في كل مرة- ولكنه جهد المقل- آملاً أن ألقى من القارئ نقداً بناءاً.. أو تصحيحاً لخطأ غير مقصود أو تعديلاً لوجهة نظر.. سأسعد كثيراً بالتفكير فيها.
