ولد الأمير عبد القادر بن محي الدين في 23 رجب 1222 هـ/مايو 1807 م ببلدة القيطنة قرب مدينة معسكر , ويعود نسبة إلى الحسين بن علي بن أبى طالب وابن فاطمة بنت محمد رسول الله صلي الله عليه وسلم , فهو من أهل بين الرسول صلي الله عليه وسلم , فأحد أجداده هو مؤسس دولة الأدراسة بالمغرب الأقصى وباني مدينة فاس , ورغم ان عبد القادر من اهل البيت إلا أنه كان يرفض رفضا قاطعا استغلال نسية وأصله لاكتساب الأحترام والتقديس وطاعة الناس.
