لم يسبق للدراسات التاريخية في العالم العربي أن تفطنت إلى أهمية الكشف عن موقف الرأي العام من الحاكم فإذا كان هذا الإتجاه قد برز في المدرسة الغربية فأحسب أن مثل هذا الموضوع يشكل بالنسبة لفضاء البحث التاريخي العربي على الأقل إتجاهاً جديداً ثم إستثماره وتوظيفه لأول مرة بشكل يغني معارفنا التاريخية خاصة في العصر المرابطي، حيث أفلح الباحث في إضاءة هذا الجانب الحقوقي بين السلطة والرعية كطرفين في "عقد إجتماعي" متكامل.
ورغم صعوبة الحصول على الوثائق التي تكشف عن موقف الرأي العام "الرعية" من السلطة المرابطية فإن صاحب هذه الدراسة استطاع أن يتجاوز الفقر المصدري بالإعتماد على متون جديدة مكنته من إختراق مستواها الظاهري لينفذ إلى ما تختزله باطنياً من رمزية ودلالات إجتماعية كانت تنتجها السلطة السياسية ويقف على مدى تأثير ذلك في صياغة موقف "الرأي العام" وهذا في حد ذاته يعتبر إنجازاً مهماً في حقل الدراسات التاريخية.
