كان ابن الجوزي شامخًا بين المصنفين والوعاظ، بما خلفه من تراث ضخم خلاصة ما أصفه به أنه كروضة حوت من جميع الثمار وأنواع الورود الأزهار، فزائرها أشبه بالطيور التي تنتقل من شجرة إلى شجرة، ومن فنن إلى فنن، وقد انطلقت حناجرها بأطرب الأغاريد وأعذب الألحان، وكذلك من يقرأ كتبه، وينتقل في رياضه، بين شعره ونثره، بين مقاماته وخطبه، بين قصصه ومناقبه، بين وصاياه ومناجياته وتأملاته، فتنتهي رحلة القارئ من تلك الرياض وقد امتلأ معرفة وازداد إيمانًا.
وقد عرف الناس ابن الجوزي مفسرًا، ومحدثًا، وفقيهًا، ومؤرخًا، وتربويًا، ومتكلمًا، ويبقى أن يعرفوه واعظًا أدبيًا. ولقد أفدت من كل ما كتب عن ابن الجوزي فى مجال الدراسات العربية والإسلامية كذلك وكان لما كتبه الباحثون عنه أثره الكبير في تلك الدراسة، وبخاصة ما كتبه أساتذة معاصرون في هذه الدراسة التحليلية الفنية.
