يقول المؤلف في هذا الكتاب: في هذا البحث أتناول شخصية اللواء محمد نجيب أول رئيس مصري من تراب هذا الوطن. لقد تعددت الأقوال واختلفت الروايات في حقيقة الدور الذي لعبه محمد نجيب بالنسبة لحركة الجيش إلى الحد الذي ضاعت معه الحقيقة، فإن موقف بعض الكتاب ووسائل الإعلام من محمد نجيب في عامى 1952 و1953 عند بداية الحركة ثم موقفهم منه بعد تنحيته من منصبه في 14 نوفمبر 1954، هو مثال على مدى ما يسهم به الكثيرون ـ بفضل الرغبة في نفاق الحكام وتغليب الأهواء الشخصية ـ في تشويه التاريخ وخداع الأجيال القادمة. وعلى ذلك فإن مسئوليتنا نحن ـ المعاصرين ـ في كتابة التاريخ أن نروى الحقيقة دون أي تحيز أو تحريف.
