يضم هذا الكتاب بين طياته دراسة نظرية متكاملة تدور حول استيعاب النصوص وتأليفها، وهي تهدف لأن تقدم لكل من يهتم باكتساب المعلومات عن طريق النصوص إطاراً نظرياً لتعليمه، أو لبحثه أو لتمرسه في ميدان التربية، تنقسم موضوعات هذه الدراسة على أربعة فصول جاء كالتالي: الفصل الأول جاء تحت عنوان استيعاب النصوص وفيه تحدث الباحث عن خصائص السياق، وخصائص النص، والشكل، وبنى النص، والأهمية النسبية للمعلومات والمضمون، أما الفصل الثاني "استيعاب النص" فقد خصصيه للحديث عن بنى المعرفة، تنظيم الذاكرة، دور المخططات، دور المعلومات السابقة، السيرورات السيكولوجية، وصف السيرورات، النماذج، تطور الاستيعاب، العمر، التطور الإدراكي، أما في الفصل الثالث "تأليف النصوص" معالج المواضيع التالية: القالب المقترح، وضع المحاورة، خصائص الكاتب، تطور التأليف، العمر، التطور الإدراكي، أما الفصل الرابع فقد خصص لدراسة العلاقة بين استيعاب النصوص، وتأليفها، وفيه تحدث المؤلف عن وظيفة التواصل، بنى معرفة وأمده، سيرورات متوازنة، الأبحاث التجريبية.
تعرض هذه الدراسة بالنسبة لكلّ من نشاطي استيعاب النصوص وتأليفها الإدراكيين، قالباً نظرياً يسمح بفهم أفضل للسيرورات السيكولوجية التي تكمن خلفهما. كما تشير إلى العديد من الأعمال حول الناحية التطوّرية للتجلّيات الملحوظة في هذين النمطين من المهامّ وتناقش دور المفكر العملاني إزاء العمر لتفسير هذا التطوّر. وتتناول أخيراً التوازي بين هذين النشاطين الإدراكيين وتتساءل حول إمكان وضع قالب نظري وحيد يحيط في وقت واحد باستيعاب النصوص وبتأليفها.
"استيعاب النصوص وتأليفها" كتاب يهمّ كلّ شخص يريد أن يعرف ويفهم فهماً أفضل النشاطات السيكولوجية التي تعمل في أوضاع قراءة النصوص، واستيعابها، وتأليفها أو كلّ شخص يهتم بالطريقة التي يرسل عبرها الرسائل المكتوبة أو يتلقّاها ويعالجها.
