تناول البحث مفهوم دلالة السياق لغة واصطلاحا وأهم صورها كما وردت في بعض مصادر اللغة وشروح الحديث، وأثر إعمالها في الفهم الصحيح لمتن الحديث النبوي ومراد الشارع منه، وهي إما دلالات من داخل النص كالألفاظ والأسلوب، أو من خارج النص كالقران الكريم والروايات المتعددة وأسباب الورود والإجماع، كما تناول البحث الضوابط الأربعة للتعامل مع دلالة السياق. وخلص في الأخير إلى بعض النتائج والملاحظات منها: اهتمام جل شراح الحديث بدلالة السياق بمختلف صورها وقرائنها، بصفتها أصلا في فهم النص النبوي، لاسيما عند تعدد الألفاظ وتشابهها، بشرط وجود دليل عليها، وأن ثمة في نصوص السنة التشريعية العرف اللغوي والعرف الشرعي الطارئ، الذي قد ينقل اللفظ عن معناه إلى معنى أخر. وبدون مراعاة هذا العرف لا يمكن فهم السنة على الوجه الصحيح، كما ينبغي الأخذ بالاعتبار الضوابط التي وضعها العلماء عند النظر في سياق النصوص، ومن شأن ذلك منع الوقوع في التجويز العقلي في الفهم بغير دليل.
